The Grammys recently released the nominations for the ceremony taking place Feb. 21. All I have to say is I’m disappointed. The Grammys is one of the most sought-after awards in the music industry. Each year, the Recording Academy awards the best songs and albums of the year but most of the times the awards don’t go to who truly deserves it. This year, one of the most well-known artists, The Weeknd, was without a single nomination despite creating an album and many songs eligible for nomination. The Weeknd has the most monthly listeners on Spotify with over 123 million, along with the 29 songs with over 1 billion streams. People mostly know him for his songs like: The Hills, Starboy, Die For You, and Blinding Lights. The Weeknd is one of the most successful artists of all time, yet he still hasn’t received a single nomination at the Grammys. His album, Hurry Up Tomorrow could have been up for R&B album of the year, and his song featuring Playboy Carti, Timeless, could have easily been in contender for rap song of the year, or even, for record of the year. He made many more submissions with some other of his songs off the same album, yet none got a single nomination. The album alone has around 3 billion streams on Spotify, debuting at number one on the billboard charts and having the biggest debut of an album in 2025. Despite the long list of achievements, the album was still not good enough for a nomination. Now, getting into Timeless, the song has 1.2 billion streams on Spotify–as of Nov. 10–making it one of the most streamed songs of 2025. The numbers of both the albums and the song shows he should’ve at least got one nomination. This isn’t the first time the Grammys have done this to the Weeknd. Back in 2020, when his album, After Hours, was released he was also without a single nomination. Some key songs in this album were: Blinding Lights, Save Your Tears, and of course, the title track, After Hours. Blinding Lights is now the most streamed song on Spotify with over 5.1 billion streams and is recognized by pretty much everyone.  After the no nominations he received in 2020, The Weeknd boycotted the Grammys and called it corrupt and withheld his submissions until last year. The Grammys begged him to come back and had him perform at the 2025 ceremony. At that point, many saw this a great apology by the academy. However, not even a year later, they basically did the same thing they did previously in 2020. To me, this proves that the Grammys are just a joke and shouldn’t be taken seriously. The Weeknd deserved many nominations–and probably a couple of Grammys–but really, it doesn’t matter because he still proves to be one of the best and most successful artists of our generation.
