A new popular movie has come to the theatres and many students are excited to hang out with friends and family to watch the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The Super Mario Galaxy movie is a sequel to the first Super Mario Bros. Movie released two years ago in April.
“Mario has been around for around 45 years now. I’ve been aware of it for a long time. It has a large global audience and they are highly successful with releasing consistent high quality games,” Andrew Thieson, Assistant Band Director said.
Not only is it a continuation to an already existing movie, the Super Mario movie but a new addition to the Mario franchise as a whole. The movie strives to connect older and younger audiences alike with different elements.
“I went to go see it the day it came out. I’d give it a 10/10 because the characters were very enjoyable, no one was out of character and it referenced other games and collabs. The graphics were also so beautiful with the movie being in the galaxy,” Anabel Reyes, Arts and Comm. junior, said.
There was close production to make the movies as close to the games as possible. The new movie also referenced plots and storylines from the first Mario movie and the over 300 games and other media released by Nintendo.
“The characters were pretty good. I liked the way they were portrayed. I just wish we could’ve seen more Nintendo characters,” Achilles Martin, Trade senior, said.
Mario has a number of distinct characters with their own personalities and roles. The Mario movie includes over 80 Mario characters and crossover characters from different galaxies.
“It brings a lot of nostalgia, when you’re younger it brings memories from games I’ve played. Around every holiday my cousins would come and we’d all sit down and take turns playing different Mario games and just seeing it in a movie just made me happy,” Reyes said.
A connection to childhood is a factor the Mario Movie incorporates into the movie smoothly. Not only are there references to other games but also the vast amount of settings in the movie brings in old characters and locations from the franchise.
“We are so locked into our devices and I think having that social outing can really connect others. I think it’s a great idea for people to go out and see movies while supporting the local theaters”
Movies and Movie theaters give people a chance to connect with others and share interests and that’s why students encourage others to go see the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie at the Sequoyah 9 Cinema.
