When it comes to prom, there can be a lot of stressful factors, like a date, a curfew, or money for a ticket, but one thing to not worry about is a dress. For this, the Career Center at the high school has come to the aid of students who need something to wear to prom, but don’t have the time or resources to go buy one. 

“A few years ago we started collecting used prom dresses for students who need them,” Jenny Hands, Career Center Facilitator, said.  “They’ve come from students who have donated them, like graduates and kids that moved away. So if a student is in need of a dress they can come in and talk to us. We’ll let them see what we have and try them all on. We don’t need to know any information about why students might need a dress, we fully understand that prom can be expensive and it really shouldn’t be. We want everyone to enjoy their high school experience and this is one way we can help out. Since the dresses are typically only worn one night they are in great condition and are available to any student. 

“They are loaned so we would like them back for future students, but any junior and senior eligible for prom is welcome to come take a look,” Hands said.

The dresses aren’t just for students who don’t have the funds either, a lot of the time they can be a convenient fix for emergencies.

”Last year I had three girls who ordered dresses for prom and they didn’t get here on time, and a lot of kids who just decided to go to prom at the last minute, and of course I wouldn’t want a dress to be a barrier, “ Emily Hamlin Delaoch, CTE facilitator, said. “So I want students to know the dresses are for everyone, and I trust that our girls here at the high school will be responsible with them.”
