Online school is not a good option for students

Going to school in person is far better than online school. Online school is okay if it’s a necessity, but it just doesn’t feel the same as going to school in person. When you go in person, you can learn better, see your friends and hang out with them and do stuff around the school instead of just sitting on a computer or iPad all day at your house. The last time I did home school was during the COVID 19, which wasn’t my choice because the whole school went from in person school to home school. When I tried online school, it was very hard to learn and focus because of all the distractions around your households like your family, phone and many other things. Sometimes I didn’t even want to listen because it was boring just to sit in front of a screen the whole time and not do anything. But all that changes when you are in a class where you are listening to the teacher, which makes you pay more attention in the class.

Another reason why in person school is better than online school is that if you are confused about anything in the class, or you were missing that day, you can simply ask the teacher for help on how to do the assignment, which the teacher will help go through step by step together. Another way is by raising your hand and ask questions. Which you can’t do in online school because for you to ask a question, you must message the teacher and wait for her response, which might take time.

In person school you get to see many activities happening around the school, you could even join them, but in online school you can’t because you’re stuck inside your house. You can play at recess, go to games, and join clubs. Online school doesn’t have all those opportunities. when you are in person you get to move around more. Sitting at home all day makes you tired, but going to school makes you walk, go to classes, and do stuff that keeps you more active. School is not just about work; it is also about making you stronger and happier.

You also make more friends when you are at school in person. Friends make school fun because you can talk, laugh, and just hang out at school while doing your schoolwork. For example, you can eat lunch together and share snacks. In online school, you just sit at home doing nothing but work with little to no forms of socialization. That’s why I think in person school is way better than online school

Qaaniy Yusuf is a health junior in garden city high school. She was born in Somalia and came here in 2018 with her whole family. Qaaniya can speak three languages. She is someone who works hard to improve herself every day. She believes in setting goals and pushing herself to reach them, even when things feel difficult. One of her biggest dreams is to become a therapist because Qaaniya wants to help people and make a positive difference in their lives. Qaaniya’s friends say that she is someone talkative and friendly. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family hanging out, and making good memories with them. Qaaniya cares about my faith and personal growth.
