Passion should take part in deciding your future career. When high schoolers are deciding what they want to do with their lives, a lot of the time they look immediately for something that pays a large amount. What are some high paying jobs that you can think of? A few that come to mind are doctor, lawyer or engineer. They don’t seem to have a lot in common, but there is one thing that they all share, they all take a lot of extra schooling. Another route many students look at is something that is fast and easy. That isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but is it really worth the couple years saved if it is a career that you wouldn’t enjoy in the long run. I personally believe it should be a balance of three things, the amount of time you are willing to sacrifice for your education, the amount of money to get that education vs the amount that you will make annually, and your passion for that career. I also believe that you shouldn’t go into a career believing it is going to be the only thing that you will do for the rest of your life. It is a balance, because no matter what you decide to do after high school, you are going to have to invest time into that. Let it be college, joining the workforce, or even the military, if you invest your time into something, you should want to be doing that. Life is not set in stone you can always change, but there are times in your life where you get to decide a part of your future. Why do something that will drain you and slowly whittle down your sanity, when given the option to do something that you would enjoy. I’m not saying go and become a couch potato or a person who stays at home all day. You want to be a functioning member of society of course. I know there are times when it is not feasible to do what you want at a certain time in your life. So in that situation, fake it till you make it. And when the opportunity arises for you to do something you love, take that opportunity.
