The recent government shutdown caused many unexpected problems, including the pushback of several school fundraisers across the country.
“The main issue was that congress did not pass the budget on time,” Lieutenant Colonel Chris Burr said.
He explained that sometimes the government fails to agree on a spending plan before the deadline, which can lead to a shutdown. When this happens, certain programs and activities that rely on government funding get delayed or pushed back.
“This year, the budget was not passed, and that caused a ripple effect on many organizations, including school programs like the Raiders’s fundraiser,” Lieutenant Colonel Burr said.
Without the government’s financial support, schools and groups that depend on federal funding were forced to delay their events until further notice. Students were very disappointed by this pushback.
“I felt kinda bad and disappointed because everyone had worked so hard for the nationals,” Princess Chappa, Trade junior, said.
The team was excited and had put in a lot of effort to prepare, only to find out that everything had to be pushed back.
I felt disappointed because the event was supposed to help raise money for a national event in Georgia,” Adam Herrera, Public Service sophomore, said.
Everyone had worked hard and looked forward to representing their school, but when the pushback happened, all their plans had to be pushed back. This not only affected their motivation but also made them realize how much outside factors, like the government decision, can influence school programs. Overall, the pushback of the fundraiser showed how the government actions can impact students and schools in real ways. While it was discouraging, it also taught the students about responsibility, teamwork, and patience. Even though the fundraiser was pushed back, many students still hope it will happen again once things return to normal and the government passes the budget on time, bringing back excitement and opportunities for everyone involved in the school community and beyond, inspiring students to stay positive, keep working hard, and never give up on their goals for the future.
