Every year seniors plan this thing called Senior Splashin’, which is a big event that the seniors call their “last game” together.
“This event took about two weeks just giving people time to get gear, water guns and turn in their money,” Julissa Rodriguez, Public Service senior, said.
This game is where the seniors have water guns and are assigned a person to eliminate using the water gun. There are protective gear they can wear so they are safe but there is also an event called the purge. The purge is when no one is safe even if they are wearing the protective gear and many people get out during this event. This year is different because it is taking place in the winter and also the spring while previous years it was only a spring time activity.
“We decided to do it this semester just to have a little fun before our time as GCHS is over. This one was really to include the early grads who will not be able to participate in the spring as well,” Rodriguez said.
Many people like the idea and find it better than to wait the extra couple months.
“I think it’s a great idea,” Daniela Loya, Arts & comm. senior said. “It gives everyone a chance to participate and have fun with their fellow classmates.”
The game can get competitive among the seniors since there is a cash prize to win and with that comes a lot of rules getting broken.
“I fix the issues with the game by nicely asking them what is going on and why there is an issue. From that, then I will fix it and work from there to make sure everyone is able to have fun,” Rodriguez said.
The game allows for the students to come up with their own strategies and possibly have allies but some know there can only be one winner.
“I do not trust anyone. I will never be found having an ally because they might be the one trying to assassinate me,” Loya said.
WIth any big game like Senior Splashin’ comes the distraction.
“I have not seen it much this year but last year there was a lot of mental stress surrounding it,” Paul Lappin, peer leadership teacher, said.
Lappin was also the winner of the teacher splashing the previous year.
“I was so jealous of the kids playing it so I wanted to do it myself,” Lappin said. “I just needed to win. I remember when Mr. Niedomys thought he could get me and was being sneaky but I sniped him before he could get to me.”
Senior Splashin’ is more than a game for the students in their last year of school. It creates lasting memories, shares laughter, and shoots them across the finish line to graduation.
