Let’s stop using medical injections to lose weight. Glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a hormone shot that people with type two diabetes take. It helps with things like regulating blood sugar and slowing digestion, and it’s a prescription recommended by professionals. Now, though, people are taking advantage of it. This shot is being taken without medical purposes by people who simply just wish to lose weight. Multiple celebrities have been seen with drastic changes in their appearance because of their usage of this shot. Not only are Hollywood stars participating, but your average Joe’s are hopping on the trend, too. It can be seen in Garden City and in surrounding communities. I think this is a bad idea for a multitude of reasons. First of all, this is a medicinal form of aid for users that seriously need it. If others are using it unnecessarily, it might lose its accessibility. In other words, if people who don’t need it are taking it, there could be less left for those that really need it? Second of all, the shot is only temporary help in weight loss. Once you begin taking the injection, you’ll not want to eat. Not having an appetite will limit the amount of food you eat and cause your weight to drop. This damages two things. Firstly, not eating will reduce nutrients and health levels. Secondly, you cannot take the shot forever. As soon as you quit taking this injection, you’ll get hungry and eat again, gaining all of your weight back and resetting your “progress.” Speaking of progress, by taking a GLP-1 shot, people cheat their way through weight loss journeys. For someone to eat consciously, move their body daily and put effort into building the body they want, it is agitating for somebody else to simply take an injection and achieve the results others have been working toward for years. This can be discouraging and a major mental setback. Plus, the way people are acquiring this medicine is cheating, too. If someone were to be in contact with a medical professional, they could automatically get in touch with the medicine. This is both illegal and unethical for both partaking parties. Personally, I would not want to provide or receive medicinal injections without a proper written prescription. All in all, I think that society’s current use of the GLP-1 shots are wrong. How healthcare supervisors aren’t doing anything about it shocks and irritates me. If you see this happening around you, I urge you to question its underlying morals and speak up about it.
GLP-1’s do not help but harm the body
