The first Wicked movie was a widely successful movie, making around $114 million in the first weekend. Surprisingly, just a year later a second movie has been released, titled Wicked: For Good with a run time of 2hr and 17m. The “Wicked” universe is meant to show a different point of view for the Wizard of Oz, the view of the wicked witch of the west.
“It was a harder story for Glenda because she’s being pressured into something she didn’t really want to do and she didn’t have her best friend by her side. Other movies are more romantic, but this one didn’t really focus on romance. It focused on friendship and how you really only need certain friends to be happy. It also makes you realize, once you lose that friend that was the most important, you realize that was the most important thing.” Alejandro Rivas-Tapia, Public Service sophomore, said.
The wicked movies also allow for a lively and more interactive experience with friends and family. Viewers have been participating by dressing up for the movie, such as wearing the color pink for the character Glenda, or green clothes for the character Elphaba. This spreads and increases the movies popularity.
“The whole week before it came out, me and my friends said it was ‘wicked week’ and we wore pink and green the entire week, that was really fun. It was unique, I’ve never watched a movie that goes that deep into lore. It was funny, sad, and happy. It hits a lot of different themes at once.
