The Garden City robotics team killed it at state coming in at second place overall which qualified them for regionals. Buff robotics designed, built and programmed their robot to perform articulated tasks. The regional competition will be held in Wichita Kansas. The robotics team showed an outstanding performance with exceptional technical thinking and efficient team work. They demonstrated creativity like no other and stood up to every challenge presented before them. The Robotics team consists of 32 outstanding students that all had part in bringing them to regionals. Buff Robotics earned first place in the Engineering Notebook and Marketing Presentation. Their engineering notebook contains records of their team’s design and development of their robot. In their Marketing Presentation they secured first place with a persuasive ad done by Robert Smith. The team also earned second place in the robot competition and third place in the exhibit. Their coach Mr. Glass was extremely proud of the entire team and how they handled the challenges set before them.
“All in all it has been a great season and I can’t wait to see where it goes,” Mr. Glass, robotics coach, said. Glass is already fine tuning the mistakes made to get them ready for the competition at regionals.
“Next step is we look at the score sheets from how we did at Hub and improve from there,” said Glass. The robotics team has not only shown technical skills but also mental abilities like determination and accountability that have brought them so far. The team also could not have done it without this year’s parental support.
“We got a lot of parent involvement, a lot more than years passed. They made some senior posters for us, which was awesome; a little surprise for our seniors,” said Glass. All of the members are very proud of the performance and some were even surprised.
“Our robot performed pretty good. Actually even better than I was expecting,” Robert Smith Arts & Comms senior, said. All in all Smith is very excited for regionals and sees it as an opportunity to triumph.
“I am ready for regionals. I think it will be a time for us to perform well and succeed in what we want to do,” said Smith. Smith has also been improving on what he and his teammates can do to get better for regionals.
“We could have improved our sportsmanship and how we interact with other teams, a few elements of our robot’s performance and a few light reiterations,” Smith said. The robotics team has truly evolved into something greater than just building robots but molding the future adults of this world. This year they have shown true greatness whether it’s in the classroom or at a competition. Be sure to cheer on the robotics team as they are off to regionals.
