Winter sports preparing for upcoming season

With winter sports starting back up again, everyone is getting excited to see how the teams will do this season. Last season boys basketball did have their challenges and losses, but this year they are challenging themselves to work harder.

“Last year we overcame a lot of the losses that we had, and some ups and downs but overall it was a good experience,” Daniel Monarrez, Trade senior, said.

They had some hard times last year, that’s only going to push them harder this year.

“Everyone is pretty locked in this year so this year should be really good, something that I’m looking forward to this year is winning,” Monarrez said.

This year the boys basketball team said that they are very excited for this season, but so are the girls basketball team.

“We’re very young and still adjusting, but I honestly think we are going to do very well. Last year was kind of rough with the changing of coaches and it was hard for me to have any confidence,” Mia Hannigan, Health sophomore, said.

There might have been some rough times during that, but there were still some great things that Hannigan and the team enjoyed.

“The best part of last year was when I scored the most points in a game and won WAC and got to go to state,” Hannigan said.

The girls basketball team was successful last year, but during that time the girls wrestling team was putting in hard work.

“Last session was very good, we were an amazing group together and we got the job done when it mattered the most,” Julissa Rodrigues, Public Service senior, said.

But this session the team is still motivated.

“This year is going to be pretty good, we have a lot of new girls on the team right now so that should be good,” Rodriguez said.

The girls team is motivated and excited about what this season is going to bring, but so are the boys.

“Last season was great, our bond and our hard work. Everyday we would grind together, like blood sweat and tears everyday,” John Michael Kurts, Arts & Comm. senior, said.

Last year was very successful for the team, but according to Kurtz, this year has lots of potential.

“We have a lot of potential coming in, because we have new younger guys. Last year was a great year because of the seniors but the younger guys are doing well,” Kurtz said.

According to Kurtz, this year the wrestling team is very motivated and excited for this new season.

“I’m excited, I’m hoping this year will be a good one,” Kurtz said.

Natalie Hahn is a sophomore in health, when she is older she wants to be an orthodontist and wants to make people feel good about their smile. She is involved in band and cheerleading. In band she plays the saxophone and for cheerleading she is on varsity and really enjoys it. With her funny personality she is also a very kind person and she never fails to put a smile on her friends faces.
