Recently, the Garden City Buffalo Chicks Instagram account hosted a “Buffalo Bachelor” for the students. All students were invited to participate in this activity. The boys were invited to join as a bachelor, or vote along with all the girls.
“It kind of brings all the athletes together to one social media activity. It gets a little game involved,” Zachary Kitch, Public Service Academy senior, said.
This activity has brought the student body together in a unique and inclusive way.
“They put a question on Instagram, and they could nominate themselves, or they can nominate other people,” Olivia Meng, Public Service junior, said.
All the selected bachelors were nominated by fellow students. There were a total of around 20 bachelors at the start of the competition.
“I low key signed myself up, and I also signed up Zac….I was like why not, and if I’m going to do it I might as well drag someone else into it with me,” Robert Smith, Trade senior, said.
Since students were allowed to sign themselves up, Smith states that he signed himself and a fellow senior up to join the fun.
“Buffalo Chicks DM’d them,” Meng said. “Asked for their best pick-up line, and a picture of themselves.”
Each bachelor then submitted their best pick-up line, in hopes to impress the audience. They include:
“Are you a parking ticket? Because you got fine written all over you,” Smith said.
Kitsch also had a creative line.
“I’d like to take you to the movies, but they don’t let you bring your own snacks in,” Kitch said.
There were many creative pick-up lines, and Smith and Kitch’s were no exception.
Once all the pick-up lines were submitted, the Chicks then posted them on their story with a poll to collect the audience votes of who was best. Each participant went one-versus-one with another bachelor, with one of them being eliminated.
“I got absolutely cooked,” Smith said. “Dude I went against Ryder…I can’t compete with that.”
Smith said that when choosing his pick-up line he went for a more civilized version, compared to Ryder Carr, another bachelor, who chose an unhinged pick-up line. Though, Smith expressed that he is not too upset about the loss.
“I was pretty sad, because Andrew looked like he didn’t even try,” Eli Steinmetz, Trade senior, said.
Steinmetz, another participating bachelor, also got eliminated during the first round. He lost against the competition of Andrew Wessels. Steinmetz expressed that he was upset because he even submitted one of his senior photos for his featured photo, but still did not make the cut for round two.
However as the rounds continued, the participants who had not been eliminated prepared for the upcoming question. Kitch, a bachelor that succeeded in the first round, shared the second round’s question.
“The next round’s question was what’s your ideal first date?” Kitch said.
Overall, many participants and audience members really enjoyed this activity for the student body. They found it was a great way to get students involved and promote inclusivity.
“The K-State Chicks did it for all the frat boys,” Meng said.
Specifically, the Chicks idea for the activity was sparked by the Kansas State University Chicks account. They were inspired by the creativity, and wanted to bring it into their own high school.
“High school in the 90s there were no phones, but now since there’s phones everyone’s distracted all the time,” Steinmetz said. “It kind of brings us all together.”
