Core, the local gym, has been a staple in Garden City for many years. People have gone there year after year and continue to enjoy their experience.
“I started going in 2023,” Mark Sherra Cruz, Trade & Health teacher, said.
Cruz for example, has gone for 2 years, specifically for lifting and strength training. Core provides great equipment for that goal but also for many other training techniques.
“Sometimes I’ll do my long runs there because I don’t want to go outside, so I’ll use their treadmills,” Julianne Baca, Health Academy student, said.
Other training options that Core aids to also include running, like Baca chooses to do. She says she specifically loves the placement of the treadmills as they face out to the windows, giving a great view for her runs.
“I wish they had less ellipticals. Nobody uses them,” Zoe Davis, Health Academy student, said.
While some people love the placement and amount of equipment, others do not. Davis expressed that there are a great number of ellipticals in the gym, yet she never sees anyone on the ellipticals.
“I want more stair masters…they’re always out of order and the rest are taken,” Davis said.
Davis instead wishes they would replace these ellipticals with stair masters, since more people use them and there are less available.
“The machines are sometimes broken…for instance the stair master,” Cruz said.
Cruz also had complaints about the machines saying that machines are often out of order and unavailable to use. He understands that machines must be fixed but still feels the inconvenience. He also notes that many times the gym is out of sanitation wipes. This worries him, especially in the midst of flu season.
People may have their complaints, but they overall love the gym.
“It’s cheap, it’s only $5 for a day pass, so it’s like the cheapest place in town,” Baca said.
She thinks it definitely has the best value for its worth.
“I love their hours…they’re open really early,” Davis said.
They open exceptionally early and stay open late, allowing people to go at the best time for their schedules.
“Not many people go so it’s not crammed,” Davis said.
People also enjoy that the gym isn’t busy. It provides them comfort and space while doing their workouts. Cruz also stated that there are hardly any people when he goes at 4:30 AM, which shows the steady flow of people at all hours of the day.
“I would definitely recommend Core to other people,” Crus said.
While it is important to note that according to the public, Core isn’t perfect and has some faults, overall the gym is a great place for people of all types to enjoy a workout. Cruz says that he enjoys going to Core and recommends it for anyone looking for a new gym.
