Class Dojo is the application currently used at the high school for overall communication at the high school, but before this, in a very short time frame, the district has been expected to switch from an app called Remind, to one called Thrillshare Rooms, before settling on the current system. This has sparked some controversy about the sudden change.
“Out of the three I would say Remind was definitely the best. I actually haven’t even gotten my login for Class Dojo yet because the teachers aren’t prioritizing it enough. A lot of teachers now are using Band, and that might be the move to switch to because I feel like it organizes stuff a lot better. I feel like we should ditch class Dojo and stick with something like Band in the future,” Chase Russel, sophomore, Public Service, said.
Teachers especially have been able to see the effects of the change.
“It’s definitely the case that we had a struggle in the fall semester getting Rooms to work correctly or having people be loaded into it. At least when we had Remind it felt a little more seamless for everybody,”Aimee Brandt, Physics teacher said . “I am pretty optimistic about Class Dojo though, it seems like once people are in it they are pretty permanently in that ecosystem, so hopefully things should work relatively well going forward.”
However, for a lot of students, Remind has been used since middle school, or at least since the start of high school, and it can be difficult to adhere to the change when the previous method of communication didn’t seem broken in the first place.
“I personally don’t think it was necessary to switch at all, it made things more complicated for everyone, and to be honest has probably made a lot more people annoyed since Class Dojo is kind of designed for lower grade levels and younger kids. Remind was the best choice I feel like, since everyone really got used to it,” Melanie Enriquez, Heath, sophomore, said.
”I kind of keep coming back to Remind being what I know the best and what is easiest,” Brandt said. “But from what I have done with class Dojo, it seems relatively easy to use so far and also has some other features that I think are good. It’s a lot easier to have events on a calendar and there can be a school story where we’re all loaded into the same community, which is convenient. I think at this point we really just need to stick with something so that we can actually be able to communicate how we need to and in the way that is most beneficial.”
